Zona reticularis - LocationIt is positioned immediately adjacent to the rearmost section of the brain, known as medulla. The Zona fasciculata and Zona glomerulosa, two other layers of the adrenal cortex, lie above this layer.
Zona reticularis - AppearanceThe structure of this tissue layer is slightly different from that of Zona fasciculata. When compared with those of Zona fasciculate, the cells of this layer are observed to be smaller, less vacuolated and more irregular.
Zona reticularis - FunctionIt is mainly involved in synthesizing and secreting various sex work hormones that act as a replacement for gonadal hormones. It is also responsible for the production of Glucocorticoids.
