Serous pericardium
What is Serous pericardium?It is the name given to a layer of the serous membrane known as the Pericardium. It is one of the membranes which surround the heart. This singular cell layer can be found lying atop a subserosal connective tissue layer.
It is also known by various other names, such as:

Parietal layerIt acts as a lining for the inner slope of the fibrous pericardium.

It is attached to the surface of the cardiac region.
Serous pericardium - FunctionsIt surrounds the heart and acts like a protective case for the organ. A thin film of serous fluid in this membrane lets the heart move easily and gives it a frictionless environment that allows it to expand and contract.
