Deep hip rotator muscles - Location
Five of these six muscles are located in a position deep to the gluteal musculature on the posterior aspect of the hip joint. In this position, they pass over from the greater sciatic notch above to the ischial tuberosity underneath.

These muscles share common actions and attachments. All of them insert on the greater trochanter of the femur and rotate the hip joint laterally. They function as vital hip joint stabilizers at the time of movement.
