It refers to the most prominent cortical fissure. It is also often known as "Central sulcus."
Cerebral sulcus - Functions
It is responsible for isolating the temporal and the frontal lobes. It also allows more surface area, or cortex to the brain where higher functions such as retention of memory occurs.
