Cardiac notch of the left lung - Definition

It is the name given to a notch in the anterior margin of the superior lobe of the left lung, in which the pericardium is exposed. 

The structure is also known by the following names:

  • Incisura cardiaca pulmonis sinistri (Latin)
  • Incisure cardiaque du poumon gauche (French)

Cardiac notch of the left lung - Location

It located along the 5th and 6th intercostals space. The structure runs constant with the anterior border of the cardiac impression on the mediastinal surface of the left lung.
